Low pack volume reserves door Hans Van Marrewijk
De PD optimum is een voorbeeld van een low pack volume reserve. Maar er zit heel wat research en design achter die LPV: speciale stof, een nieuw design, uitgekiende vluchteigenschappen zorgen voor een bijzonder product. Door deze technologie kan je een grotere reservekoepel in je harnas stoppen dan bij een klassieke reserve mogelijk zou zijn.
Het hele verhaal van Hans hier herhalen zou moeilijk zijn, maar dat hoeft ook niet, want je kan het hier herbekijken.
Verhoog de activatiehoogte van je AAD door Luc Beullens (Vigil)
Een moderne AAD heeft een vaste activatiehoogte rond de 800 voet hoogte. Dat is 5 seconden vrije val voor impact en lager dan de hoogte waarop je je circuit inzet. Een vertraging op je pilot chute kan er voor zorgen dat je wel erg laag open hangt. Zelfs als de koepel perfect opent, geeft je dat weinig tijd om een goede landingsplaats te zoeken. Bill Coe van PD schreef er deze blogpost over.
Om deze reden raadt Vigil gebruikers aan om de activatiehoogte 300 voet hoger te zetten. Waarom dat dat nodig is en hoe je dat doet kan je hier opnieuw bekijken.
The true audible altimeter by Elena from Vog.ee
We are all used to visual altimeters and audible atimeters. Audible altimeters however only work preset altitudes and do not give a continuous read out of altitudes as a visual altimeter does. VOG is the first audible altimeter giving a constant altitude awareness throughout the skydive. Elena explains the added value of the VOG system and demonstrates its simple use. Wireless charging and setting it through a smartphone app are truly innovative.

The MARD by Kenneth Gajda from UPT
Reserve static lines have been around for a long time.
But to increase safety for tandem pilots and their passengers, Bill Booth has been researching a way to use the main parachute to extract the reserve parachute.
It was no small feat to move this simple idea to a solution that works but does not interfere with the pilot chute in a total malfunction or deploys prematurely when only one riser releases. And these are only a few of the contingencies for which the rigging team at UPT had to find a solution.
The test jumpers for the tandem solution were so pleased with the system, they also wanted one for their sports rig. Since the Vector 3, the Skyhook is available on sports rigs and is licensed to Aerodyne, Sunpath and Parachute systems for use in their systems as well.
